Calling all movers and groovers aged 60+ in Hastings. Join us for an 8-week dance course with renowned choreographer Darragh O’Leary and show off what you’ve learned in two special performances in London.

Whether you love to dance or just want to have fun and stay active, One Foot in the Groove is for you. Meet new people, learn two exciting dance routines and perform them live at Duckie’s Posh Club in Hackney and Peckham.

We welcome everyone, regardless of background or ability. No dance experience needed—just bring your energy, enthusiasm, and commitment!

One Foot in the Groove is a community dance club for those aged 60+ that celebrates movement, creativity, and connection. Since 2020, members have danced together and enjoyed lively social events. They've performed at the De La Warr Pavilion, Southbank Centre, St Leonards Festival and Duckie’s Posh Club in Hastings, Eastbourne and Hackney to name a few. What to Expect

  • Week 1: Intro taster session – meet the group and decide on the dance style.

  • Weeks 2-7: Learn two new exciting dance routines.

  • Week 8: Final rehearsal before the big performance.

  • Week 9: Two performances in London.

How much does it cost?

Free! Thanks to funding from the National Lottery and Home Live Art, there are no fees for classes, rehearsals, or travel and accommodation costs for the final performance. All you need to do is show up ready to dance, learn, and have fun.

What are the commitment requirements and dates?

You must be available on the following dates:

  • Tuesday 15 April (11.15 - 1.15pm)

  • Tuesday 22 April (11.15 - 1.15pm)

  • Tuesday 29 April (11.15 - 1.15pm)

  • Tuesday 6 May (11.15 - 1.15pm)

  • Tuesday 13 May (11.15 - 1.15pm)

  • Tuesday 20th - Break 

  • Tuesday 27 May (11.15 - 1.15pm)

  • Tuesday 3 June (11.15 - 1.15pm)

  • Tuesday 17 June: Final rehearsal.  (11.15 - 1.15pm)

  • 24 and 25 June: Performances in London (overnight stay in hotel).

Rehearsals Location: St Johns Church Hall, Brittany Rd, Saint Leonards. TN38 0RD

Performance venues: Peckham and Hackney Posh Clubs, London

Who Can Take Part?

To be eligible, participants must be:

  • 60+ and based in Hastings

  • Open to learning a dance routine and performing in London.

  • Able to attend all or most rehearsals and final perfomance.

The group aims to create a welcoming space of respect and inclusion, free from any form of discrimination. New members would also be expected to support this.

Access: We welcome participants of all abilities and will do our best to accommodate any access needs. Please let us know in your application what you may require and how we can support you if selected. Further access information below.

We have just 5 spaces available, so spots are limited. New members will be selected through a random draw from eligible applications once the deadline has passed.

Access

St John’s church hall is accessible to wheelchair users via a ramp at the front door and it is all on one level. There is one toilet that can be accessed by a wheelchair however at the moment it does not have handrails or a hoist. All Posh Club venues are accessible for wheelchair users and have accessible toilets.

An access budget is available for those that may need help with the cost of attending. This money can be used for a variety of costs including transport, childcare or to cover the cost of a personal assistant.
