Home Live Art has taken up temporary residence in the exquisite Angel House, a restored Regency home on Brighton’s seafront. A unique experience made for a unique space, At Home with Angel House, revisions the salon tradition of gathering, conversation, and entertainment.
Bricks and mortar, family, gender roles and relationships…who and what makes a home? Held in the capable hands of our host, artist Richard Layzell, The Salon’s contributing artists delve in and around this topic, questioning our 21st century notions of homemaking.
In the drawing room, you’ll find space to talk, drink, relax and soak up the surroundings. From here, you are free to explore a host of close encounter performances and interactions all over the house: from film and sound installations to music, stand up, theatre and spoken word.
Until quite recently in human history, a lady’s needlework was a sign of being a good and virtuous woman. BOY STITCHERS reverses this stereotypical image and shines light on a new breed of male stitchers, exploring the work of Trevor Pitt, Stewart Easton, Luke Deverall and Tom of Holland who together talk about and demonstrate their artistic approaches to working with textiles.
Meanwhile at the top of the house, armchair revolutionary and poet Jonny Fluffypunk shares his thoughts on becoming a dad. And referencing the internal ticking women may or may not feel as they approach middle age, pianist, inventor and mother, Sarah Nicolls presents her inside-out piano, which she is installing in the form of a giant ticking clock.
Wandering through perceived rooms and environments, Seth Kriebel takes you on a virtual journey of the house without you having to leave your chair, while Me And The Machine are keeping something or someone locked behind a secret door…
