Knotty Festival & BLACK JOY! Exhibition Collaboration

Close-up image of two black individuals, adorned with numerous gold chains and necklaces, large gold hoop earrings, and a white lace glove with large gold nails made from tape, clasping each other. Only the bottom half of their faces is visible.

We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Claudine Eccleston, founder of Playing the Race Card, to co-curate a special series of events celebrating Black culture, resistance and happiness as part of our Knotty, festival of perfomance programme.

This collaboration will complement the 'BLACK JOY! Up Close and Personal' exhibition at Hastings Museum and Art Gallery.

“I am really excited to have teamed up with Home Live Art to bring these incredibly talented artists to Hastings, injecting a fresh perspective into our town’s cultural offerings.”

-Claudine Eccleston

Claudine Eccleston is a Windrush generation, British and Jamaican. An activist, artist and occasional actor, she helped set up the first Black Socialist Alliance in the 1970's. Former first female plumber, foster carer and children's lifestory practitioner.

Playing the Race Card was started in 2020 by Claudine in response to her own experiences of this diminishing term in Hastings and is led by a Working Group of community members in collaboration with Home Live Art.
