Outdoor Creative Project: Open call for Artists

Home Live Art is inviting proposals for bold and original ideas for a pop-up creative project to happen in public spaces in Hastings and St Leonards

This is an exciting opportunity to propose an outdoor work that can be placed into the streets of Hastings and St Leonards as part of a new monthly town-wide programme of events running from January to March 2022.

We understand that this is a tight turn around and a relatively small budget so we are not seeking large-scale or technically complex work, in our experience a bold idea very well executed can have a big impact.

It could be an existing work you have ready-to-go or something new that you would like to try out – whatever your creative project is, we want to hear from you!

The deadline for applications has now been extended to Wednesday 1st December 2021

Commission Outline
Development and Materials Fee: £1500
Performance Fee: £1500 (3 performances)
Location: Public spaces in Hastings and St Leonards (tbc)

What we’re looking for:

  • A small-scale live work or installation that encourages the general public to engage when passing by

  • Existing work or something new that you would like to try out

  • A work designed for presentation outdoors, in a town centre setting

  • Impactful and engaging with broad, family-friendly or universal appeal

  • Work that takes into consideration that it may have a high audience turnover due to the possible weather conditions at this time of year.

Who can apply?

We are interested in hearing from artists who make or wish to develop work for outdoor spaces that can grab the attention and imaginations of audiences.

We encourage artists from a wide-range of disciplines to apply including but not limited to cabaret, activism, experimental theatre, installation, dance, music, sound and visual art.

It could be a pop-up performance, an interactive installation, a movement and dance piece, a series of projections or a sonic immersive experience – we are open to all suggestions as long as they have creativity at the heart of them.

Technical Production

The finished piece must be self-sufficient.

All technical requirements (including equipment and operators) for the work will have to be provided by the artist/companies.

Performance Dates:

Thursday 27 January 2022
Thursday 24 February 2022
Thursday 31st March 2022

Please note: You must be available to perform in Hastings on all of these dates

Access

There is an access budget of up to £300 available if your application is selected and you have any additional costs for your project. This money can be used for a variety of costs including transport, childcare or to cover the cost of a personal assistant.

Please let us know any access costs in the online application
