Ida Barr A Right Song and Dance

When: 2nd September 2012
Where: The Elephant & the Nun Festival, Nursery Row Park

A Right Song and Dance at the The Elephant & the Nun Festival Southwark, featuring Ida Barr’s Mash Up and Ragroof Theatre’s Tea Dance.

Nursery Row Park, off East Street Market, Walworth SE17, Sunday 2nd September, 2012.

A glorious afternoon of tea, cake, dancing, music hall and rap!

Ida Barr is the old time music hall turned rap superstar character of award-winning artist, Christopher Green. Audiences joined the hilarious pensioner and her friends for a not so old fashioned singalong, where music hall classics met R&B hits in a new style called Artificial Hip Hop. Inspiring performances during the afternoon showcased Ida’s intergenerational Mash Up Choir alongside some of the best creative talent in Southwark.

Participating groups included those from Pembroke House, Southwark Resource Centre,Movement Factory, Stockwell Good Neighbours, Claremont Centre and The Pop Up Choir….

After the Mash Up we all hit the floor with Ragroof Theatre who danced for us and spun tunes from the 20’s to the 40’s. We all showed off our moves and learned some new ones with instant dance classes by Dorothy’s Shoes.

Other attractions included Playswap by Eleanor Shipman: a drop in creative workshop where you could imagine some new architectural proposals for Elephant & Castle.

The Elephant & the Nun Festival is Southwark Council’s annual community festival celebrating the heart of Southwark from The Elephant & Castle all the way down to Nunhead. The Festival was filled with dance, music, food, arts and whole lot of stuff and nonsense.
